The main technological event in the sugar-energy sector, the ISSCT Congress takes place in June 2013, in São Paulo.
São Paulo, February 2012 - The NATIONAL SERVICE OF INDUSTRIAL LEARNING (SERVIÇO NACIONAL DE APRENDIZAGEM INDUSTRIAL - SENAI) from Alagoas will manufacture alcohol in the ISSCT (International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists) Congress' exposition. The transformation of sugarcane into fuel will be possible due to a micro distillery assembled by the institution for the fair, which will take place between February 24th and June 27th, 2013, at Transamerica Expo Center in São Paulo.
According to Marcelo Carvalho, the technical director of SENAI Alagoas, the small factory was designed with the aim of providing in loco attendance, with safety, great mobility and flexibility to facilitate mobility and transport, which contemplates the possibility of experiments/research in laboratories outside the large centers. As declared by him, the Didactic Ethanol Micro Distillery has its operating principle based on process control using sensors, motors, valves, centrifugal pumps, all monitored via PLC logic and supervised by devoted programs, making it easy to track, monitor and control on a simulated mode all stages of the production process. “The entire process is automated, from the mill's operation, to the broth treatment and fermentation until its final distillation to obtain the alcohol fuel, ensuring full control and supervision at all stages of the manufacturing process compatible with an industrial distillery”, he explains.
The equipment can be widely used by industry and research institutions for development and production experiments of alcohol/ethanol, allowing, in a reduced scale and cost, the development of new production technologies. Through the Micro distillery it is possible to train professionals in the areas of Instrumentation and Process Control; Alcohol Production Operator; Distillation Systems Operator and Process Manufacturing, among others. “With the expansion of the plants, the demand for professional courses has increased, given that this equipment was developed in the Alagoas unit, and was the winner of Inova SENAI 2010 award, it is already being used by 14 states that produce sugarcane in Brazil” said Carvalho, highlighting the importance of attending the ISSCT Congress, the main technical event of the sugar energy sector.
